house with middle stairs

House in Nakano

This is a multi-family house built on the river bank.
The house was built for five family members, and in case the river flooded, the first floor was raised above the storage space under the floor, allowing for evacuation to the roof.
Placing the stairs in the middle creates the shortest flow line and a variety of viewpoints.
The connection between the stairs and the atrium creates a sense of openness that is rich in variety.
